I have been getting into oatmeal lately. I want to use it in everything. Maybe it's my yearning for fall to come, but I love the smell of oats, cinnamon, and fruit mingling in the air. I have been finding all sorts of really good ideas for oatmeal. This morning I used some WF rolled oats, lotsa cinnamon, dark brown sugar, and apples. Mmmm so good and filling.
Now that was nommy :)
Last night I went to Borders, because you know it's closing down and all. I was glued to their fitness/health section trying to find some gems. I ended up getting "Clean Eating for Dummies" and "The Eat Clean Diet...Stripped!" by Tosca Reno. I am really interested in learning more about clean eating. We have really been thinking about what we are putting into our bodies lately. It's so scarry to think that so-called health foods could really be causing great damage! Eek! I would say we are about 30-40% clean currently...but every day and week is different. Our kitchen/pantry is transforming. My breakfasts and lunches are seeing the most drastic changes.
Today we had our company picnic. So glad that is all over. It was my thing to put together, but I had a lot of help from my friends/coworkers who have been there before me. I feel like I ate a ton. Tried to not go for the hamburgers or hotdogs...because they are chockful of who knows what...but I'm weak! I had a hot dog, potato salad, tuna macaroni salad, organic carrots (! which I brought)....brownie.........cupcake.... Oh well I'll get back on track tomorrow. Weekends are always so difficult for me, I have to much time to stray from my eating plan.
Lastly on a sad note, went to Trader Joe's and was in the mood for pizza. Picked up one of their premade dealies and brought it home, turned on the oven, noticed "blue" cheese on the pizza, husband confirmed it was mold, threw pizza away! Sigh, will have to get my money back tomorrow.
Have a good rest of the weekend!!

Getting back on the wagon...sorta
I have been trying to get out of my slump lately. I've stopped losing after hitting my plateau at the halfway point. So I'm trying to up my exercise. Yesterday I went on my weekly 2.5 mile walk with my cousin around her subdivision. One of my favorite nights of the week and I get a pretty good calorie burn.
Today, I went for the old standby...Taco Bell (dun dun dunnnnnn). I have been trying to cut make on my fast food and have been doing fairly well compared to the old Kelly. So I got a Nacho Bell Grande and a soft taco...supreme. And of course, it made me feel like crap. All fast food makes me feel like crap. I don't know why I do this to myself...it seemed like such a good idea. I swear I temporarily brainwash myself when it comes to fast food and I forget all about how horrible it makes me feel and how gross it tastes. I just don't like it anymore!
On the brightside, since I felt so gross and unhealthy after eating that, I was motivated to workout. I pulled out one of my favorite Leslie Sansone DVD's and walked away the pounds. Do you know how much I love Leslie Sansone? She was my motivation when I first decided to get healthy. She helped me lose my first 20 and her principles have helped me keep it off and lose more. I recomend her to everyone who asks "How did you do it?" I've even got a few people to start her DVDs...or at least buy them.

Today's Foods
I stayed home from work today and had some time to spend on my breakfast! Normally I bring a yogurt with some flax and a Kashi bar with me to work. So today I had a whole wheat Bagel Thin with a fried egg and a Valencia orange and the last little bit of Cherry kefir.
Mmmmmm, I love kefir. We just started buying it and it is soooo good! So interesting. I like cherry the best so far.
I have been wanting to make these baked cherry oatmeal cups for a couple of weeks now and I finally got the time. I got the receipe from Doortodoororganics.com. That's where we get all of our organic produce.
They are so delicious! I had one right out of the oven and it was all warm and fragrant. They are definitely going to be a fall favorite. I also want to substitute the cherries with apples or raisins next time.

Dessert Overload!
This has been the week of dessert! Dessert/sweets/chocolate/candy (shall I go on?) are my downfall. It all started with my mother-in-law's walnut torte on Saturday. That was the dessert at our Summer birthday party. This torte is one of my favorite desserts and I bet part of that is that it has 8 sticks of butter in it!! That's right, 8 sticks! Soooo good though, so I had to have that, right? Then Sunday went to a friend's wedding and of course had to have the wedding cake. And this wasn't just your typical wedding cake either. This is made by a friend and she puts so much time and love into these things it's like you are eating a slice of Heaven! She even made 4 trial cakes and had them taste tested. Then Tuesday we had another family birthday party and there were 2 cakes and an apple pie. I wanted one of each, however, I stuck with a sliver of pie. The scale is angry with me and not going down. I wish I had pictures of that torte though, it's a work of art!
Today is a new day though. I am about to have some cereal for breakfast and will have a light lunch. I am going to be walking a couple of miles tonight with my cousin. I haven't worked out since Sunday when I did some yoga. My weight is still at a standstill...I need to get back on track!

I've hit a wall!! Help!
Kelly is getting fit! One pound at a time. I have already lost about 35 pounds on my weight loss journey. I have been working out and changing my eating habits since November, 2010. I still want to lose about 35 more pounds. I have hit sort of a slump and haven't been losing as much as I was. I am getting bored of my routine. Since I have been having trouble with my exercise habits I have been concentrating on my eating habits a lot more. I have been addicted to fast food pretty much my whole life. In the past month I have been trying to overcome this addiction and I must say that I am pretty proud of myself. I have only eatten out a couple of times and that is a big change for me. I used to at least one fast food meal a day, give or take. I have been enjoying cooking and baking a lot more now. I can't wait until it gets cooler so I can use my oven more. We don't have AC and it gets too hot with the oven roaring.
We recently signed up for Door to Door Organics. They deliver fresh organic produce to our house every week. It has made our lives so much easier and healthy. I am trying new things all the time and have an abundance of healthy snacks and dinner ideas. Plus, I have to use it all up by the next week because even more will come!! So that is pretty good motivation. My husband, Greyson, hates to waste food. So I am coming up with ways to hide the veggies he doesn't like in with other foods he loves i.e. zuchini bread muffins :)
So, starting this week I have made a meal plan on my Gmail calendar and I am going to schedule my workouts on there as well. I love being organized and making lists, it makes me feel more accountable.
I'd write more, but I just finished a yoga DVD and have to take a shower before a friend's wedding.
